B Shift Haz-Mat Call

On 1/28/2012 around 17:00, E61 responded to a reported fire alarm at the Comcast call center at 8000 E Iliff Ave.  E61 entered a room adjacent to the main server room and was presented with a white haze in the air and a hissing sound coming from the wall.  E61 quickly determined that the FM200 system was not discharging, the haze was not fire related and that it was most likely a leak in the Freon based cooling systems for the room.  BC6, M61, C6, and HM45 all responded on the reclassified call for a hazardous materials response.  Aprox 125 employees were evacuated for 8 hours while the system was drained and the building was ventilated.  Crews established ventilation, assisted in shutting the Freon lines down, and retrieving personal items for employees.  E61 and BC6 were the last CFD units to clear the call at aprox 22:00.  The call center resumed normal operations at aprox 6am the following day.

B-Shift Haz-Mat

On 8/17, units were dispatched to a reported semi truck leaking a liquid in Distrcit 61.  With E61 out on another response, first due M61 and AFD E11 found a trailer in a parking lot leaking a clear fluid and a red fluid.  EMS6 arrived and assumed command requesting a Haz-mat response.  CFPD, ACSO, AFD, and South Metro worked together over 7 hours completing 2 level A entries to overpack a leaking drum in the trailer.  Entry teams were confronted with almost 100 degree temperatures outside making the entries physically demanding on those involved.  A final entry was made to open an adjoining trailer and ensure that there were no drums in it.  Units on the response were C6,C64, BUR63, Trng6, EMS6, BC6, BC32, AFD BC2, AFD E11, E61, M61, TW45, HM46, M32, ACSO.

B-Shift Works Extrication

2/20 - E63, Med 63, E62, BC6, Med 611, and AFD all worked a multi-vehicle accident on E-470 at Quincy.  Two vehicles collided head on at a high rate of speed resulting in two fatalities and three extricated and transported.  Crews worked quickly upon arrival to remove the three children.  Crews operated on the scene for several hours.
